Classes & Mentoring

LLOYD MAJOR works with beginner to experienced artists to bring out the best of their abilities. He will teach you to turn the pictures you see in your head or on photos, into your own unique art works while developing your own skills and style!

Lloyd teaches “Basic Techniques for Oils, Acrylics, Brush and Palette Knife” in ongoing four-week sessions of once weekly classes. Each art class is over two hours of fun in a relaxed, casual atmosphere learning from a master of the tools and techniques.

The classes are always limited to only four students, ensuring a high level of one-on-one time with Lloyd. Classes cover:

  • Perspective, colour mixing & tone
  • Composition & sketching on canvas
  • Brush strokes and brush control practice
  • Underpainting and base coat wash
  • Painting the final image over the wash
  • Working with a palette knife

These oil and acrylic painting classes are in high demand so you may need to wait for an opening. Call Major and Maxwell Studio at 250-586-6877 or come in and meet Lloyd to get your name on the list!

Shows

Once or twice a year a Show and Sale by local artists who work under the direction/mentorship of Lloyd Major is held at the working studio/gallery. In June of 2011 we celebrated the opening of the new Major and Maxwell gallery at 170 Morison Avenue (1/2 block west on Morison) with our Spring Show.  Original works by at least twenty local artists were hung from June 3 to June 10. Many pieces were for sale. The opening gala featured local musician Bill Cave be providing the entertainment and refreshments were served to a capacity crowd.
