The Big Tree

Over 800 years old, 76 meters tall and 9 meters around the base, this Douglas Fir is the biggest tree in Cathedral Grove on Vancouver Island, BC. Painted in oils on 6' x 2' gallery wrapped canvas.

Lloyd Major is a Canadian artist who specializes in oil paintings of West Coast old growth forests,   totem poles, silver birch and poplar groves, landscapes and seascapes of Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Nanoose Bay and Rathtrevor Beach on the east side of Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

A current passion is painting the old totem poles found throughout the Northern Gulf Islands, Haida Gwaii (the Queen Charlotte Islands) and especially SGang Gwaay (Anthony Island) at the southern tip of the Charlottes. Anthony Island is home of the old Haida village of Ninstints, and is a World Heritage Site located in Gwaii Hanaas National Park. Lloyd’s masterful interpretation of the old poles has resulted in several series of commissioned paintings.

Primarily an oil painter, Lloyd is happy to create a work specifically for you on a commission basis. The images found in this online gallery may, if already sold, serve as inspiration for a custom art work.

Lloyd’s working studio is located at the new Major & Monk Studio and Gallery across from the Beach Club in downtown Parksville, BC.

Lloyd’s art is also displayed and sold through
